Moving right along - Genesis 11

I'm completing the chapters that my automation has done the most work on. I really must do a little more intelligent work on the automation. I have many routines with the rules for parsing in them but I am not yet applying them to the 130,000 odd single guesses my routine makes. The problem is that every rule must be applied in a context. Take for instance Sarai's name. It is is uncertain by itself, שרי, if it is a construct for nobility, שר, or a proper name, and there's no way to guess the right domain. My guesses include successive contexts but they are not linked in any way to potential 'meanings' that we might associate with a gloss (mean is scare-quoted deliberately.)

So here's the end of the first 11 chapters of Genesis (I still have not done chapters 6-9).

Mangle is an odd gloss - but I see a touch of humour here, and the regular gloss for בלל is mingle. The name of the place is בבל, of course. See also here from the Hebrew Language Detective. You will see the play on words. (And what did they have for mortar? slime? They are both the same word, חמר, and I used slimy for another stem.)

My grandson and baby, Benjamin, a child with cystic fibrosis, is now on the beach in Maui. And we will join them next week. (There are grandsons and baby below - so have fun reading.) The two year old, Oliver, is with them of course. There's a two year period below too. Arpachad was born two years after the deluge. We are voluntarily dispersed, and the tower with its top in the heavens is now a satellite, and it's function includes de-mingling tongues. Did you notice the mentions in chapter 10 about tongues? There were already multiple tongues mentioned before this story. Language is lip in Hebrew - don't give me no lip from you!

Genesis 11 Fn Min Max Syll
1 And all the earth was one language,
and of words a unity.
3e 4B 10
6
2 And it happened in their migration from confrontation,
they found a crevasse in the land of Shinar, and they settled there.

15
3 And they said each to his associate, Take care. Let us brick bricks and let us incinerate in an incinerator.
And so it was for them, the brick for stone and clay they had, for mortar.
3e 4C 23
21
4 And they said, Take care. Let us build for ourselves a city and a tower and its top in the heavens, and let us make for ourselves a name,
lest we be dispersed over the face of the whole earth.
3e 4B 26
10
5 And Yahweh descended to see the city and the tower,
which the human children built.
3e 4B 15
9
6 And Yahweh said, Lo, one people and one language for all of them, and this they start to construct.
So now nothing will enclose them which they intend to do.
3d 4C 25
16
7 C Take care. We will descend and there mangle their language,
that they not hear, each his associate's language.
3e 4C 11
12
8 And Yahweh dispersed them from there over the face of the whole earth,
and they left off building the city.
3d 4B 16
8
9 Therefore he called its name Babel for there Yahweh mingled the language of all the earth,
and from there Yahweh dispersed them over the face of the whole earth.
