But stand in your lot. Yes - that's the same word as throwing the dice. A recognition that we are cast like dice into our world, and some roll with the lot, and some fight it, and some lots are luckier than others, but each has its own lot. (Isn't it nice to know that there is a little chance in the universe? O quanta, how we need you to counteract the dismal planning of pre-destination.)
The music begins with a flourish. A quick scan shows three qarne (horns, intense brightness) perhaps reflecting the brilliance (זהר, zohar) of those with insight.
There are not many with insight. The people are at odds. Their hand, their means, must be smashed (the word used in Psalm 2, you will smash them with an iron sceptre, and Psalm 137, happy the one who grasps and smashes your babies on the cliff.) It is a frame for the Psalter, revealing the conflicted prayer of the people. If you get what you pray for, it is because you are your prayer and you do what you are.
|1||And at that time Michael will stand, the great chief that stands over the children of your people, and there will be a time of trouble that not has been since there was a nation until that time, |
and at that time your people will escape, everyone, whoever is found inscribed in the book.
|2||And many who sleep in the ground of dust will awaken, |
some to life evermore and some to reproaches, to aversion evermore.
|3||And those that have insight will be brilliant as the brilliance of the expanse, |
and from the righteousness of the many, as the stars, forever and ever.
|4||But you, Daniel, be discreet about the words, and seal the book until the time of the end. |
Many will rove and the knowledge will increase.
|5||But I, Daniel, I saw, and behold two others were standing, |
one here on the bank of the canal, and one there on the bank of the canal.
|6||And he said to the person clothed with linen who was above the waters of the canal, |
How long to the end of the wonders?
|7||And I heard the person clothed with linen who was from above the waters of the canal, and he lifted high his right hand and his left hand to the heavens and swore by the Living, the Everlasting, |
that for an appointed time and appointed times and a half, and as the things to be consummated to smash the means of the people of holiness, all these will be consummated.
|8||And I, I heard but I did not understand. |
And I said, My Lord, what is after these?
|9||And he said, Go Daniel, |
because discreet and sealed are the words until the time of the end.
|10||Purified and made white and refined, many will be, but the wicked will do wickedly and none will understand, none of the wicked, |
but those that have insight, they will understand.
|12||Happy the person who tarries and touches |
the days, a thousand three hundred and thirty five.
|13||But you, go to the end, |
and you will repose, and you will stand in your lot at the end of the days.
