Deuteronomy 13

There are some doubled words that provide interesting patterns in this chapter. I note that הרם, utter destruction, the ban, has the same letters as רחם, compassion. Each occurs exactly twice in the chapter, compassion being the ultimate focus of the recurring word patterns. Verses 1 and 19 are an inclusio for the chapter.

There are also a number of places where there are long lists of actions or conditions in these last two chapters. How do such lists come to be? Usually following much thoughtful consideration.

Re immediately adjacent doubled words, another thought arises in me: rather than emphasis, do they align intent with action?

1 B All the word that I myself have commanded you, it you will keep to do.
You will not add to it, nor will you subtract from it.
