1 Samuel 27

Another short chapter. There is work going on behind the scenes though on long chapters.

A full year appears to be just 'days' ימים by itself. Verse 7. This is the only verse I have seen with a rest between the subject and the predicate. (Music here) It's perfectly fine in Hebrew, but is odd in English if you render ויהי as was and try to make it read as a sentence.

I have allowed the gloss of country and countryside for סדה which to date I have rendered only as field.

1 Samuel 27 Fn Min Max Syll
1 And David said to his heart, now I will be snatched away one day into the hand of Saul.
There is nothing better for me than to escape, to make my escape to the land of the Philistines. Saul will despair over me to seek me any longer within every border of Israel, and I will escape from his hand.

2 And David arose and he crossed over, he and six hundred men that were with him,
to Akish child of Maok, king of Gath.

3 And David settled with Akish in Gath, he and his men, each person and his household,
David and his two wives, Axinoam the Jezreelite, and Abigail wife of Nabal the Carmelite.

4 And it was told Saul that David had run away to Gath,
and he again no longer sought him.

5 And David said to Akish, If please I have found grace in your eyes, let me be given a place in one of the cities of the countryside that I may settle there.
Why should your servant settle in the city of the kingdom with you?

6 And Akish gave to him in that day Tsiqlag.
Therefore Tsiqlag is of the kings of Judah to this day.

7 And this is the count of the days that David settled in the country of the Philistines,
a full year and four months.

8 And David and his men went up and pillaged the Geshuri and the Gezerites and the Amalekites,
for they were the settlers of the land that are of old, as you come to Shur and to the land of Egypt.

9 And David struck the land and left alive no man or woman,
and took sheep and oxen and asses and camels and garments and returned. And he came to Akish.

10 And Akish said, Were you not pillaging today?
And David said, over the south of Judah, and over the south of the Yeraxmelite, and to the south of the Kenite.

11 But no man or woman David left alive to come to Gath, saying, Lest they should tell about us, saying,
Thus did David and thus. His astuteness, all the days that he settled in the country of the Philistines.

12 And Akish believed in David, saying,
He makes himself stink for his people in Israel, so he will be for me as a servant evermore.
