2 Chronicles 19

Nice short chapter in somewhat familiar language territory. Verse 2 is without change of word order. Perhaps the question should be first, but the immediate answer for me was, Of course you should. I wonder if that is the intent of the rhetoric. The ambiguity of the particle אבל adds to the amusement of the opening. Verse 8 ישׁבו interpreted as stem ישׁב rather than שׁוב.

2 Chronicles 19 Fn Min Max Syll
1 ~ And Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, returned to his house in peace to Jerusalem. 3c 3g 22
2 And Jehu child of Hanani the visionary went out to his presence, and he said to king Jehoshaphat, To help the wicked, and those who hate Yahweh, should you love?
So in this for you is rage from the presence of Yahweh.

3 Lamentably, good things were found with you,
for you have shriven the fetishes from the land, and have prepared your heart to search out God.

4 And Jehoshaphat settled in Jerusalem then he returned and he went out among the people from Beer-Sheva to mount Ephraim,
so he returned them to Yahweh the God of their ancestors.

5 And he installed judges in the land in all the enclosed cities of Judah, city by city. 3c 3g 23
6 And he said to the judges, See what you do, because not for a human you judge, but for Yahweh,
who is with you in the word of judgment.

8
7 So now let the dread of Yahweh be over you.
Keep and do, because there is with Yahweh our God, no injustice, nor partiality of face, nor receiving of bribes.

8 And also in Jerusalem Jehoshaphat had installed from the Levites, and the priests, and from the heads of the ancestors of Israel, for the judgment of Yahweh and for dispute.
And they sat in Jerusalem.

9 And he commanded them, saying,
Thus you will do in the fear of Yahweh, in faithfulness, and with a heart at peace.

18
10 And every contention that comes upon you from your kin inhabiting in their cities, between blood to blood, between instruction to commandment, and to statute, and to judgment, you will admonish them, and they will not bear guilt to Yahweh, and there be rage over you, and over your kin.
Thus you will do and you will not bear guilt.

9
11 And behold, Amariah, the head priest, is over you for any matter of Yahweh, and Zebedyah child of Yishmaeil, herald to the house of Judah, for any matter of the king, and the Levites will be overseers in your presence.
So deal resolutely, and Yahweh will be with what is good.
