Genesis 43

I think verse 9 answers a question I asked the last time we looked at this story. It is a troublesome answer: then my sin is to you every day. If we live in a lie, it is before us every day - even if suppressed - until it is undone.

Genesis 43 Fn Min Max Syll
1 And the famine was heavy in the earth. 3e 3g 9
2 And it happened that as they finished eating the crushed corn that they had brought from Egypt,
that their father said to them, Return. Get crushed corn for us, a little food.
3e 4C 23
18
3 And Judah said to him, saying,
Yet the man protested with us, saying, You will not see my face except your brother is with you.
3c 4C 10
22
4 If you are interested to send our brother with us,
we will go down and we will get crushed corn for you to eat.
3d 4A 14
10
5 And if it is not in you to send, we will not go down,
for the man said to us, You will not see my face except your brother is with you.
3e 4C 11
19
6 And Israel said, Why did you deal ill to me,
to announce to the man you still had a brother.
3e 4B 13
10
7 And they said, He asked. The man asked of us and of our juveniles, saying, Is your father yet living? Is there for you a brother? We told him on the mandate of these words.
Could we have known that he would say, Bring down your brother?
3e 4B 41
16
8 And Judah said to Israel his father, Send the lad with me, and let us arise, and let us go,
that we may live, and not die, both ourselves and also you, also our little ones.
3d 4B 27
18
9 I will be surety for him. From my hand you may demand him.
If I do not bring him to you and exhibit him before you, then my sin is to you every day.
3e 4C 14
27
10 g For if we had not lingered,
then by now, we would have returned this second time.
3e 4B 7
9
11 And Israel their father said to them, If it is so here, do this, take the pruning of the land in your vessels, and bring down to the man a gift,
a little balm and a little honey, gum and resin, pistachio nuts and almonds.
3e 4C 38
17
12 And take twice the silver in your hand,
and the silver returned in the mouth of your satchels, you must restore it by your hand. Perhaps it was misplaced.
3e 4C 10
26
13 And take your brother.
So arise, return to the man.
3e 4A 7
8
14 And God the Sufficient give to you compassion in the presence of the man, and he may send to you your other brother and Benjamin.
As for me, in that I am bereaved, I am bereaved.
3d 4C 31
12
15 And the men took that gift, and twice the silver they took in their hands, and Benjamin.
And they arose and went down to Egypt, and they stood in the presence of Joseph.
3d 4C 28
17
16 And Joseph saw them with Benjamin, and he said to who was over his house, Bring everyone towards the house.
And slaughter and prepare, for with me the men will eat at noon.
3d 4C 29
22
17 And the man did as Joseph said.
And the man brought everyone towards the house of Joseph.
3d 4B 12
14

18 And the men feared when they entered the house of Joseph, and they said, Upon the matter of the silver returned in our satchels at the start, we are brought in,
that he may roll over us, and fall upon us, and take us as servants, and our asses.
3c 4C 39
31
19 And they came close to the man that was over the house of Joseph,
and they spoke to him at the door of the house.
3e 4B 12
10
20 And they said, O my Lord,
we came down at the start to procure food.
3d 4B 7
12

21 And it would be that we came to the stop over, and opened our satchels, and behold, the silver of each in the mouth of his satchel, our silver in weight,
and we returned with it in our hands.
3e 4C 37
9
22 And other silver we brought down in our hands to procure food.
We do not know who put our silver in our satchels.
3c 4B 16
15
23 And he said, Peace to you. Do not fear. Your God and the God of your ancestors gave to you buried treasure in your satchels. Your silver came to me.
And he brought Simeon out to them.
3e 4C 39
9
24 And the man brought everyone towards the house of Joseph,
and gave water, and they washed their feet, and he gave silage to their asses.
3d 4B 14
21
25 And they prepared the gift till the coming of Joseph at noon,
for they heard that there they were to eat bread.
3e 4B 17
9
26 And Joseph came to the house, and they brought to him the gift that was in their hands to the house,
and prostrated themselves to him earthward.
3d 4C 25
7
27 And he asked them of their welfare, and he said, Is your father well, the old man of whom you talked?
Is he yet living?
3d 4C 25
5
28 And they said, He is well, your servant our father. He is yet living.
And they bowed their head, and they worshiped.
3d 4B 17
8
29 And he lifted up his eyes, and he saw Benjamin, his brother, the son of his mother, and he said, Is this your youngest brother of whom you have talked to me?
And he said, God be gracious to you, my son.
3e 4B 34
11
30 And Joseph moved swiftly, for his compassion to his brother was fevered, and he sought to weep.
And he entered the inner room and wept there.
3e 4C 20
11
31 And he washed his face, and went forth,
and repressed himself, and he said, Set in place bread.
3e 4A 8
11
32 And they set for him alone,
and for them, theirs alone, and for the Egyptians who ate with him, theirs alone, for the Egyptians would not be able to eat bread with the Hebrews, for it is an abomination to the Egyptians.
3d 4C 14
36
33 And they sat before him, the firstborn according to his birthright, and those of lesser account according to their lesser account,
and the men marveled, each to his friend.
3e 4B 20
13
34 And he bore loads from before him to them, and increased the load for Benjamin more than all their loads by five handouts,
and they imbibed, and they were intoxicated with him.

What sort of waiting on tables was Joseph doing? When I noted ידות from יד hand might be handful, I realized I had an unexpected overlap that I didn't think I should allow. Psalm 72 has a handful of corn... but the word פסה is a hapax (perhaps indicating a minute amount or vanishingly small) and derived from another hapax פסס (vanished - used only once in Psalm 12 with exceptions for Aramaic and an acrostic), so the overlap with the two handfuls of Ezekiel was misleading where I think I should not mislead. So the Psalm changed. (Not that I would mislead anyone, but I have ignored the overlap among stems related to human movement, come, go, etc. And I have allowed overlap for 'literary' reasons.)

(Perhaps I should have my routines parse out the dual or even all numbers, to eliminate the two from masking duplicate glosses? It's more trouble than it's worth at present.)
