Genesis 41

The name given to Joseph is not a Hebrew play on words, so I did not make any attempt at translation. There are some interesting notes here.

I find it curious that in a sample of 305,000 words, some ordinary words are used only once though the stems are very common. So עמד stand, (and several other possible glosses) occurs 652 times in 584 verses, but בעמדו when he stood, occurs only once. My algorithms cannot easily analyse the word as preposition + stem + singular third person because the form is ambiguous and could read when they stood. There's no easy way to figure out the form of the verb from the consonants themselves. In this case it is not a third person plural verb, but an infinitive with a third person singular pronoun. Fortunately for me, I am not starting from scratch. I have over 2 thousand years of translations before me. All I am trying to do is see what's going on, maybe polish the lenses a bit.

I have put an initial list of word forms for this stem here.

Verse 47 has only one word after the atnah, קמץ. I had already used handful and fistful for other stems. And the operative verb is עשה. Such an ordinary and common word. With a little coaxing, I actually got a card-playing image out of it.

I avoided the use of buy/sell in verse 56. My gloss for שׁבר in that domain is peddle. This stem שׁבר can also be read as broken, perhaps as in break open, a positive spin, and also as crushed corn as later in the story.
Genesis 41 Fn Min Max
1 And it happened at the end of two years,
and Pharaoh dreamed, and behold he stood by the Nile.
3e 4B
2 And behold, from the Nile came up seven cows, beautiful of appearance and firm of flesh,
and they grazed in the marsh-plant.
3e 4B
3 And behold, seven other cows coming up behind them from the Nile, evil of appearance and flimsy of flesh,
and they stood next to the cows by the bank of the Nile.
3c 4C
4 And the cows, evil of appearance and flimsy of flesh ate the seven cows, beautiful of appearance and firm.
And Pharaoh awoke.
3e 4C
5 And he slept, and he dreamed a second time,
and behold seven stalks of grain coming up in one purchase, firm and good.
3d 4B
6 And behold seven stalks of grain, flimsy and blighted by the east wind,
sprouted behind them.
3e 4B
7 And the stalks of flimsy grain swallowed up the seven firm and full stalks of grain,
and Pharaoh awoke, and behold, a dream.
3e 4C
8 And it happened in the morning, that his spirit was beaten down, and he sent and he called all the magicians of Egypt and all her shrewd,
and Pharaoh recounted to them his dream, but there was none to interpret them to Pharaoh.
3d 4C
9 Then the chief cupbearer spoke with Pharaoh, saying,
My sins I remember today.
3e 4B
10 Pharaoh was enraged at his servants,
and he consigned me in a keep of the house of the chief of the slaughter, me and the chief baker.
3e 4C
11 And we dreamed a dream in one night, I and he,
each according to the interpreting of his dream, we dreamed.
3d 4B
12 And there was with us a Hebrew youth, a servant to the chief of the slaughter, and we recounted to him, and he interpreted for us, our dreams.
Each according to his dream he interpreted.
3e 4C
13 And it happened that as he interpreted for us, so it was.
Me he restored to my role, and him he hanged.
3d 4B
14 And Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they raced him from the pit,
and he shaved and renewed his habit, and came to Pharaoh.
3e 4C
15 And Pharaoh said to Joseph, A dream I have dreamed, and there is none to interpret it.
And I, I heard said of you that you will hear a dream to interpret it.
3e 4C
16 And Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, It is not of me.
God will answer the welfare of Pharaoh.
3c 4A
17 Then spoke Pharaoh to Joseph,
In my dream, note me well, I stand by the bank of the Nile.
3e 4A
18 And behold, from the Nile, came up seven cows, firm of flesh and a miracle of handsome,
and they grazed in the marsh-plant.
3e 4B
19 And behold seven other cows coming up behind them, distilled and very evil of form, and wafer-thin of flesh.
I have not seen the like of these in all the land of Egypt for evil.
3c 4C
20 And the wafer-thin and evil cows ate,
the first seven firm cows.
3c 4B
21 And they entered within them, and it was not known that they had entered within them, and their appearance was worse than at the start.
And I awoke.
3e 4C
22 And I saw in my dream.
And, behold, seven stalks of grain came up in one purchase, full and good.
3d 4B
23 And behold, seven stalks of grain, frazzled, flimsy, blighted by the east wind,
sprouted after them.
3e 4B
24 And the flimsy stalks of grain swallowed up the seven good stalks of grain.
And I talked to the magicians, but there was none to make it clear to me.
3d 4B
25 And Joseph said to Pharaoh, The dream of Pharaoh, it is one.
What God is doing, he has made clear to Pharaoh.
3c 4C
26 c The seven good cows, seven years they are. And the seven stalks of good grain, seven years they are.
It is one dream.
3c 4C
27 And the seven wafer-thin and evil cows coming up behind them, seven years they are. And the seven wafer-thin stalks of grain, blighted by the east wind,
they will be seven years of famine.
3e 4C
28 B This is the word that I spoke to Pharaoh,
What God is doing, he has shown Pharaoh.
3c 4B
29 Behold seven years are to come,
great satisfaction in all the land of Egypt.
3d 4A
30 ~ And seven years of famine will arise behind them and all the satisfaction in the land of Egypt will be forgotten,
and the famine will consume the land.
3e 4C
31 And the satisfaction will not be known in the land, in the face of the famine that is after such,
for it will be very heavy.
3d 4C
32 And twofold, the dream was to Pharaoh, two times.
For the matter is established with God, and swiftly God is to do it.
3c 4C
33 So now let Pharaoh see a man of understanding and shrewd,
and set him over the land of Egypt.
3e 4B
34 Let Pharaoh act, and let him entrust officers over the land,
and take a fifth part of the land of Egypt, in the seven years of the satisfaction.
3e 4B
35 And let them collect all the food of these good years that come,
and let them accumulate corn under the hand of Pharaoh, and let them keep food in the cities.
3c 4B
36 And the food will be entrusted for the land for the seven years of the famine that will be in the land of Egypt,
and the land will not be cut off in the famine.
3e 4C
37 And the word was good in the eyes of Pharaoh,
and in the eyes of all his servants.
3e 4B
38 And Pharaoh said to his servants,
Can we find someone like this in whom is the spirit of God?
3d 4B
39 And Pharaoh said to Joseph, After God has made known to you all this,
there is none so understanding and shrewd as you are.
3c 4C
40 You yourself will be over my house, and your mandate will equip all my people.
Solely re the throne, I will be greater than you.
3e 4B
41 And Pharaoh said to Joseph,
See, I yield to you over all the land of Egypt.
3e 4B
42 And Pharaoh put aside his ring from off his hand, and he assigned it onto the hand of Joseph,
and he clothed him with garments of fine linen, and he set up a livery of gold on his neck.
3d 4C
43 And he had him ride in the second chariot that he had. And they called out before him, Bend the knee.
And he assigned him over all the land of Egypt.
3e 4C
44 And Pharaoh said to Joseph, I am Pharaoh.
And apart from you, no one will exalt his hand or his foot in all the land of Egypt.
3c 4B
45 And Pharaoh called the name of Joseph, Tsaphenat Paaneax, and he gave him Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera, a priest of On, for a wife.
So Joseph went forth over the land of Egypt.
3d 4B
46 And Joseph was a child of thirty years when he stood in the presence of Pharaoh the king of Egypt.
And Joseph went forth from the presence of Pharaoh and passed through in all the land of Egypt.
3e 4C
47 And the land dealt, in the seven years of the satisfaction,
openhanded.
3e 4B
48 And he collected all the food of seven years that were in the land of Egypt, and he consigned food in the cities.
The food of he field of the city that is surrounding each, he consigned into its midst.
3c 4C
49 And Joseph accumulated corn as the sand of the sea, very much,
until he set aside counting, for it was without count.
3d 4B
50 And to Joseph were born two sons before the coming of the years of the famine,
which Asenath the daughter of Potiphera, a priest of On, gave birth to for him.
3e 4C
51 And Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh [oblivion],
for God has made me oblivious of all my toil and all the house of my father.
3d 4C
52 And the name of the second, he called Ephraim,
for God has made me fruitful in the land my affliction.
3d 4B
53 And the seven years of satisfaction were finished,
that was in the land of Egypt.
3e 4B
54 And the seven years of famine started to come, as Joseph had said,
and there was a famine in all the lands, and in all the land of Egypt, there was bread.
3e 4C
55 And famished was all the land of Egypt, and the people cried out to Pharaoh for bread,
And Pharaoh said to all Egypt, Go to Joseph. What he says to you, you will do.
3d 4C
56 And the famine was over all the surface of the land.
And opened Joseph all that was with them, and there was crushed corn for the Egyptians, so resolute was the famine in the land of Egypt.
3e 4C
57 And every land came toward Egypt for crushed corn, to Joseph,
for the famine was resolute in every land.
